Hello and good morning from this part of the world. So glad you stopped by. I could have named this post my fully spontaneous and casual weekend greens and grains whip up. That would have been 100 percent accurate. The pictures reveal it, no optimal light, no planning, no set up, no staging. Nada. However the smoothie turned out delicious.
Meals at home are most of the time created with a large pinch of spontaneously, in part because of everything else that goes on here and I let the produce I have at home guide the menu. It usually works better than overload planning. SL&L premise for upcoming food creations: Just plain spontaneity paired with fresh and nourishing ingredients.
What talked to me this morning: Fresh spinach leaves (I pack as many as I can into my drink mix), kiwis (one, but you may splurge today and add two as they were just perfectly ripe), Maca powder for some women's health hence fully optional, rolled gluten free oats, protein powder of your choice, almond milk and for a crunchy and nutrients dense topping, a great grains blend, Trader Joe's Super Seed & Ancient Grain Blend. What's in this magical blend? A combo of sprouted buckwheat groats, sprouted millet, chia seed, golden flax seed, organic red quinoa, shelled hemp seeds and organic amaranth.
Enough writing. Let's get started, shall we?
1 1/2 cups (unsweetened) almond milk
1 generously stuffed cup raw spinach leaves
1 ripe kiwi, pealed and cubed
1 Tablespoon Maca powder (this Peruvian nutrient is optional)
2 Tablespoons rolled gluten free whole oats (Trader Joes is my top choice)
1 Tablespoon Trader Joe's Super Seed & Ancient Grain Blend -- it contains barley,
1 scoop Protein Powder
Optional: 1/2 banana for extra sweetness and creaminess
Place all ingredients besides the Trader Joe's Super Seed & Ancient Grain Blend in a blender and mix until smooth for 1-2 minutes. Poor into your beloved weekend cup or glass and add super seed mix for extra crunchiness. You can also add ice to it before blending the mix. I just never do that. That's maybe the European in me, I am not a fan of ice cold drinks. But I hope you like this one as much as I do. Ok now you can officially start slurping. Or, like I did, find a nice sunny spot outside to enjoy my Greens 'n Grains Smoothie and start the day.
Happy (Yes, It's Already May) Monday.
